SUPER ROB!!!!!

In a match that looked like it could go in either direction during the second half, Robert Pires scored an absolutely amazing 78th minute goal to put the Gunners ahead admist a torrential downpour on Saturday afternoon at Anfield.
Liverpool struck first when former Arsenal transfer target, Harry Kewell, took advantage of some sloppy Arsenal defense and met a cross into the box with a smash to the right of Jens Lehmann. The Reds had been controlling much of the play in the opening minutes, with Michael Owen having great chances to score both before and after the Kewell goal.
The Gunners began to assert themselves, slowly but surely causing more of the play to take place in the Liverpool end. The effort finally paid off when, in the 31st minute, a free kick was awarded to Arsenal a few yards to the left of the penalty area. Robert Pires sent a curling cross which met the leaping head of Edu, deflected off of Liverpool’s Sami Hyppia, and past keeper Jerzey Dudek to bring the Gunners level at the half.
Arsene Wenger gave Jeremie Aliadiere his first first-team start, lining up up top with Thierry Henry. The young Frenchman did fairly well, and played some part in the go-ahead goal. He held the ball up along the edge of the Liverpool penalty area, found Edu, who passed to Robert Pires. Super Rob then sent an exquisite curling shot to the right and around a diving Dudek, assuring the Gunners all three points.
This is a huge win, as in recent years, Arsenal’s performances at Anfield have seemed to set the tone for the rest of the season. It’s still very early, but Arsenal remain undefeated in the League, and are top with 20 points from a possible 24. ManUre follow with 19 from a possible 24, and Chelski have 19 from a possible 21. The next match for Arsenal will be a huge “Battle Of London,” as the Gunners will clash with the blue side of the capital when Chelski visit Highbury on October 18. The match is on PPV here in the US at selected pubs, atarting at 10 AM.
