World Series Resumes

After split in Bronx, Series moves to Miami

. @

The Yankees will be looking to re-gain home field advantage when they face the Florida Marlins in Game 3 of the World Series tonight in Miami. The Marlins are sending their ace of the staff, Josh Beckett to the hill, who is coming off an amazing performance against the Cubs. Pitching for the Yanks is Mike Mussina, who, in his first relief appearance since high school, shut down the Red Sox offense in the 4th inning of Game 7, which ultimately gave the Bombers a chance to come back and win the game.

Due to the fact that the next three games are being played in a National League park, Jason Giambi will switch from DH to First Base, and Nick Johnson will be relegated to the bench. It’s a shame that Nick will be sitting, but to have that caliber of player on your bench is not a bad problem to have.

Things kick off tonight at 8 on FOX, with the first pitch around 8:18. “LETS GO YANKEES!”

I was working today, and so therefore cannot comment on the match, other than to say that it’s quite a disappointing loss. Arsenal now have to win all three of the remaining Champions League matches to have any chance of advancing past the first round.

Holy crap, the Rangers have finally won a game!

The New York Rangers won their first game of the 2003-04 season on Monday night, beating the Florida Panthers 3-1 at MSG. A fantastic 34-save performance by Mike Dunham was buoyed by goals from Eric Lindros, Tom Poti, and Petr Nedved. The Rangers are now 1-2-2 on the season, and next play on Saturday, when they host the Detroit Red Wings.

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premiership Table today with a hard fought win over London rivals Chelsea. The Gunners set the pace early, and Edu put the North Londoners ahead after only five minutes when his low placed free kick slid under a jumping wall of Chelsea defenders and past a diving Carlo Cudicini.

Chelsea new boy (let’s face it, they’re all new boys there) Hernan Crespo answered Arsenal’s opening volley with a beautiful goal that was marred only by the fact that the officials blew the obvious offside call that would have negated it.

So, after 10 minutes, it was all level at a goal apiece, and it stayed that way until the 75th minute, when the Gunners cashed in on some Arsene Wenger strategizing. In the 65th minute, Wenger substitued Dennis Bergkamp and Kanu for Sylvain Wiltord and Ray Parlour. The impact the substitues made was immediate. Within instants, Arsenal were dominating posession, and getting chance after chance. Finally their persistance paid off, in the unlikeliest of circumstances. The usually solid Carlo Cudicini had come out to collect a Robert Pires cross into the box, but lost control and the ball fell to Thierry Henry to slot home what would turn out to be the winner.

So, as things stand tonight, there’s only one team in London. Next up for the Gunners, a long trip to the Ukraine on Tuesday, where they’ll take on Dynamo Kiev in a critical Champions League fixture. Kickoff is at 2:45 PM here on the eastern seaboard.

The World Series

Well, thanks to Steve Bartman, Grady Little, and the Fenway Park grounds-crew, the apocalypse has been avoided. Instead of the “dream matchup” of Cubs v Red Sox, we’re given Yankees vs. Marlins. I for one couldn’t be happier.
