Gunners stay top, undefeated in League

A fourth minute strike from current Men’s Health cover boy Freddie Ljungberg set the tone as the Gunners cruised to a 0-3 win over Birmingham City at St. Andrews. The goal was Freddie’s second in two games. Could this be the start of something for the man whose hair is no longer there, let alone red?

Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires scored the other goals, all three of which were set up by the greatest striker in the world, Theirry Henry.

The win keeps the Gunners undefeated after the first thirteen matches of the season, a new Premiership record. It also keeps them one point in front of Chelski and two in front of ManUre, who both also won today.

This Tuesday Arsenal face another must-win, this time in Milan against Internazionale. Anything less than a win, and the Gunners chances for European glory this season go out the window. The match is actually being televised here in the US on ESPN2, starting at 2:30 PM ET.

Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup

Quidditch gets the “Madden” treatment.

EA Games’ latest Harry Potter offering has been a long time coming. Ever since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was first released the groundwork was laid for a video game version of the fast-paced, action-packed sport of the magical world, Quidditch.

The game was designed by the same team who worked on the superb “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets” released last year, and therefore, the same high standards set by that game have been met here. The graphics are outstanding, and the flying engine is excellent.

Just like in all other EA Sports games, there are two modes the player can choose, a quick game, using the international teams (U.S., England, Japan, Bulgaria, just to name a few) or to go through career mode, starting out as a student at Hogwarts, learning the ropes from fellow students in your chosen house. I chose Gryffindor, and therefore was tutored by Harry, Angelina Johnson, Oliver Wood and others. Once the player masters the basics of the sport, they can begin playing competitive matches against the other school houses. Doing well will earn the players points, which they can in turn use to buy faster brooms. Win the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup, and move on to play at the international level, ultimately vieing for the ultimate prize, the Quidditch World Cup.

This game is a lot of fun, and is great to play with friends or against the computer.

What has happened to ESPN?

Is it me or is ESPN becoming unwatchable?

.The programming is getting more awful by the day. Aside from easy targets of Playmakers and ESPN films, what were they thinking with Cold Pizza? I am glad that Cold Pizza does not come on during my regular tv viewing hours. I have only managed to stomach a few minutes of it. It is a bad concept for its audience and suffers from even poorer execution.

I think they only shows I watch on ESPN are PTI (the channel’s late afternoon savior, if you ask me) and Around the Horn (which sadly has grown on me) I will occasionally watch some of the NFL shows(except the one with the Bronco jack*** Mark Schlereth).

I don’t even find Sportscenter that interesting any more and as a result, rarely watch it. I am not sure if the anchors are less engaging or if it’s the material they cover, or both. Anyway, a show I once loved, I now have come to avoid. The bottom line is that I think that the network takes itself far too seriously and has forgotten that it’s main function is as a 24/7 sports(billiards, cards, board, or academic games not included) network.
