Yankees, Joe Torre agree to contract extension

Torre to manage until at least 2006

.

Joe Torre and the New York Yankees reached an agreement today that will keep Joe at the healm of the Yanks for at least another two years. This is absolutely great news, as it had been rumored that Joe had been considering retiring after this season. Joe is one of the most sucessful managers in Yankee history, winning four World Series championships in his nine years with the Yanks, as well as an additional two World Series appearances.

Arsenal 4 -2 Liverpool

Thierry Henry scored his first hat-trick of the season as Arsenal twice came from behind to beat Liverpool 4-2 in the Premier League at Highbury this morning. 4 -2

Liverpool went ahead in the fifth minute after winning an early corner, Finnish international Sammi Hyppia bundling the ball home.

It took Arsenal some time to mount a response, but it came from the most likely source, Thierry Henry. Henry scored the equalisier in the thirty-first minute, showing that despite whatever naggling injury he may have, his determination has not diminished.

So, it seemed as if the sides were going to be on level terms at the break, but Michael Owen had other ideas. The England striker took advantage of some nice passing from Steven Gerrard to put Liverpool up once again.

Down 1-2 at the half, Arsene Wenger must have given one hell of a team talk, because the Gunners came out like men possessed in the second half. Robert Pires raced onto a pass into the box just four minutes after the restart and slotted the ball home for the equalizer. Barely had the celebrations finished when Henry took the ball at the halfway line, dribbled past three Liverpool defenders, and beat keeper Jerzey Dudek for his second goal of the game. Highbury erupted, Arsenal had taken their first lead of the game.

Liverpool were all but done for at this stage, and it really was a waiting game for the final whistle. Liverpool never looked like equalizing, and Arsenal continually looked like they would get another. Finally, it came, Henry completed his hat-trick in the 78th minute, finishing his own rebound and that was all she wrote.

So, an excellent start of the Easter program for the Gunners, and quite the response to the massive disappointments of earlier in the week. The lead at the top is back up to seven points over Chelski, and the undefeated streak in the league is now up to thirty-one.

Arsenal will try to make it thirty-two when they face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Easter Sunday. Kickoff is 11:05 ET, and the match is being shown live on PPV here in the States.

Arsenal 1 - 2 Chelski (Chelski win 3-2 on aggregate)

Worst Week Ever?!?!?!?!?!?!

I’m too depressed to even write anything of any substance right now. Suffice to say, Arsenal have crashed out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League in a matter of four days. This could very well turn into the worst week in the history of the club. Anything less than wins against Liverpool and Newcastle in the League on Friday and Sunday respectively, and what was once a chance for glory on three fronts could very quickly turn into a nightmare scenario of coming up empty-handed.

Arsenal 0 - 1 ManUre

DAMN IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arsenal’s fixture congestion came back to bite them in the ass today, as not starting Henry made all the difference in a 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to the scum from Manchester. ManUre advance to the FA Cup final, and the dream of an Arsenal treble has come crumbling down. Two hours have passed since the match ended and I’m still extremely pissed off. The only thing that will make me feel any better is a complete and utter annihilation of Chelski in the Champions League Quarter-Final on Tuesday night. There are still trophies to be won, and so the focus now shifts to concentrating on Europe and the league.

Dead annouce summer tour

August 7/8 in Camden, NJ

.At $44.50 for a lawn ticket, I can’t really see myself going to these shows. However, I would love to hear this music live one more time…

Anyway, despite rumors to the contrary, the Dead will not be touring with Yes this summer, instead it’ll be either Warren Haynes, the Allman Bros. or Robert Hunter. In Camden, it’s Robert Hunter.

I think I’ll be saving my cash for the Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson double bill that’ll roll into town some time in late August - early September.
