Uncle Joe Live Steam progress report

The mild weather we’ve been having has greatly helped us to get some more rough grading started. Four photos are attached.

The first shows footpost marker 19 in the foreground, footpost 20 is in blue. The dozer/backhoe enters the right-of-way between those points. Rough grading has proceeded from there. The cut is not finished - it will be 2 feet deep when done.

The second photo shows footpost 24 the first on the left. The blue flag is footpost 25.

The third photo shows footpost 26 first on the left. The cut ends at footpost 28. Then fill begins at footpost 29.

The fourth photo shows footpost 30 first on the left. The fills goes to footpost 33. Footpost 35 is in the center of the picture. Beyond footpost 35 will be another cut.

Of course, these are only rough gradings, holding the cuts and fills to more precise elevations will come in the future.

By the way, as of today, 1300 feet of track has been constructed and stacked for future placement. The first loop has been preliminarily surveyed and selected and will be about 1650 feet in length. The grades will be kept to 1.5% or less, up and down. The minimum radius will be 50 feet. The difference in elevation from the highest point to the lowest point will be about 8 feet. The ruling uphill grade will be about 530 feet long at a constant 1.5%.

Happy Thanksgiving!
