Southampton 1 -1 Arsenal

Robin Van Persie and Jens Lehmann’s combined stupidity cost Arsenal two points as this frustrating season rolls on.

As Arsenal were enjoying a one goal lead as well as an 11 on 10 advantage, Van Persie, who’d already been booked in the first half, commited a moronic slide tackle that earned him a sending off.

There went Arsenal’s advantage.

Then later in the second half, Lehmann was woefully out of position during a Southampton corner, and there was nothing that could be done when the ball was sent back over his head and smashed in by Peter Crouch.

Oh, and on top of everything, Robert Pires had to be subbed out after suffering an ankle injury (caused by a first half tackle that saw the Southampton man sent off) that’s more than likely going to keep him out for a while. So, that makes the following players unavailable through injury and suspension:

Campbell, Edu, Gilberto, Fabregas, Bergkamp, Reyes, Pires and Van Persie

Joy!

Bayern Munich 3 - 1 Arsenal

Yet another underwhelming European peformance by the Gunners. Arsenal once again leave themselves a mighty hill to climb in the Champions League. By scoring the away goal, they do have an outside chance of advancing, but now have to win at Highbury in two weeks by a score of at least 2-0. If Bayern Munich scores, all bets are off.
