March 21st, 2005 — Adventure

Great news from Boston yesterday as my cousin Paul called to let me know that he and his lovely girlfriend Alina are now engaged to be married. In addition, the couple have asked that I serve as the Best Man at their wedding, for which I couldn’t be more honored.
Congratulations guys!

I’ve mentioned my buddy Brian several times on these pages, and have told you about his exploits in homebrewing. He’s actually quite an accomplished brewmaster, and has won several awards. Today, after many scheduling snafus, I finally got the chance to take my first steps into the world of homebrewing. Using Brian’s equipment, we brewed up a batch of MoreBeer.com’s Irish Red Ale. It was a hell of a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to bottling it in two weeks (not to mention tasting it in another two after that.)

March 19th, 2005 — Arsenal FC

Last minute starter Robin van Persie scores the only goal of the match as Arsenal move back up to second place.
With about three minutes left in the first half, van Persie scored a fantastic goal, reminiscient of Dennis Bergkamp’s goal against Newcastle a few seasons ago, and that proved to be enough to claim all three points at Ewood Park this morning.
It was an interesting match in that Thierry, Dennis, Bobby and Freddie all did not play. Freddie had been slated to start, but picked up an injury during pre-game warmups, and that made way for van Persie’s chance to make a good impression.
With Easter weekend coming up, you would normally expect all sorts of footie action, and you’d be right, sort-of. It’s the dreaded international week this week, so Arsenal don’t play again until April 2nd. Let’s hope all of the Gunners who go off to play for their countries come back in one piece.

Last night I was lucky enough to be invited to Mr. & Mrs Fool’s (aka Brian and Karen’s) to “help” drink two 1/6 kegs of some very good Dogfish Head beers. The first was the Punkin Ale, which was suprisingly quite good, and the second was the 60 Minute IPA, which I had had before, but was still excellent.

Thank you, Brian and Karen, “for a real good time.”
March 18th, 2005 — New York Giants

In a bizarre turn of events, just days after announcing that they were no longer interested in signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress, the Giants did just that yesterday. I’m not sure how I feel about this, as Burress does have a reputation for having a bad attitude. I slept on it last night, and decided that he should at least be better than Ike Hilliard.

“May those who love us, love us. Those who don’t, may God turn their hearts. If He can’t turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, so we’ll know them by their limping.”
