Squiggy and Holly Get Married

I’m a bit late on posting these, because I ended up leaving my camera at Brian and Karen’s on Saturday night. I’ve got it back now, and thus have 47 great shots to share with you. Click on the image above to see the whole gallery.

Keith and Holly got married this past Saturday at the Stone Barn in Kennett Square, PA. It was a beautiful place for a wedding, and the bride and groom did it their way. The music, the butterflies, everything was Keith and Holly, and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

Checking one off the list…

In my Friendster profile, I have a list of three people I want to meet; Nick Hornby, Bono and Arsene Wenger. Well, I can now check one off the list.

Yesterday, Scott and I travelled down to Olsson’s Books & Records in Arlington, VA to go to a reading/signing by Nick Hornby, aka, my favorite author.

I’ll post much more later, but to check out pictures from last night, click on the image above.

Panama 0 - 3 USMNT

OK, I stayed up late last night to watch this on Telemundo. It was worth it just to see Kasey Keller make an amazing triple save. It was incredible, and if I can find streaming video of it, I’ll share it here.

So, after having played all of the teams in the group, the US are 4-1, the only loss coming in the Azteca against Mexico. Not bad, not bad at all.

Mike on the radio again

Today I was once again privileged to share air time with my favorite author, Nick Hornby.

This time, Nick was on NPR in Philadelphia, WHYY 91 FM, during their mid-morning show, “Radio Times with Marty Moss- Coane.”

The show will be re-broadcast tonight at 11 PM ET, and then the archived show will be available via streaming audio beginning tomorrow. Nick was on during hour two of the program, and I was the last call taken.

The only reason I was able to listen to the show, let alone dial in, was because I had volunteered to pick up lunch for folks here at work. Traffic around town has been terrible due to several construction projects all taking place at once, so as such, I had plenty of time to sit and listen in the car. Sometimes I do believe in serendipity.

While on the subject of radio shows, the two minute or so snippet of me on the BBC back on May 30 can be found here.

USMNT 3 -0 Costa Rica

I was kinda, erm, distracted this weekend, so I completely missed this game. We’ll have to make do with ussoccer.com’s version of events:

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (June 4, 2005) - The U.S. Men’s National Team recorded a dominating 3-0 victory against Costa Rica in front of a raucous Utah crowd of 40,586 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The victory was sparked by two goals from forward Landon Donovan and six sparkling second-half saves by goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

Donovan’s two strikes were his first goals of the year and extended his amazing streak of having scored at least a goal or an assist in 11 of the 12 FIFA World Cup 2006 qualifying games played by the United States on their current road to Germany. For Keller, the shutout was 38th in his 80-game U.S. MNT career and his 16th in 28 World Cup qualifying appearances.

The USA victory, coupled with qualifying victories by Mexico (2-0 in Guatemala) and Trinidad & Tobago (2-0 against Panama at home) puts the U.S. in a solid second-place position in the hexagonal with nine points after four games. The U.S. is one point behind Mexico, but five points clear of Guatemala, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago, who are all even with four points. Panama, the USA’s opponent on Wednesday is bringing up the rear with two points.

New Arsenal shirts revealed (no, really - this time we can see the front)

Arsenal this morning released the first official images of next season’s commemorative jerseys that actually show what they look like from the front. Two thumbs up from me, they’re a vast improvement over any blue shirt Nike tries to shove down our throats. Here’s hoping that we wear yellow away from Highbury.

Turns out that the pre-order date has been moved up. They will become available beginning June 8 by calling +44 020 8342 5858 or visiting the Arsenal.com online store, shop.arsenal.com
