Paul McCartney and U2 will kick off the proceedings at tomorrow’s massive Live8 series of concerts by playing “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” at London’s Hyde Park.

Bono and the boys will dress in Sgt. Pepper uniforms and serve as the backing band for Macca. They will also be playing a few songs of their own.
Also in London, Richard Ashcroft of the Verve will be teaming up with Coldplay to peform “Bittersweet Symphony.” Pete Doherty of the Libertines will be teaming up with Elton John to perform T-Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution,” Robbie Williams will be performing a cover of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and of course, a re-united Pink Floyd, complete with Roger Waters, will be performing together for the first time since 1980.
In Philly, Jay-Z is coming out retirement (again), and Destiny’s Child will be making one of their last performances before their scheduled break-up. In Berlin, Green Day will be attempting to underscore the political bent that their music has taken in the last year or so. Also appearing in Berlin is Brian Wilson, probably doing some stuff from “Pet Sounds” and “Smile.”
There’s going to be tons of coverage of the event, from radio, to TV to web. The best places to look for more info are the following:
