Jim, Jesse and Reese featured in Wilmington News Journal

Jim and Jesse enjoying the water fight

My brothers, sister and cousins are spending this week at a camp established by a local hospice to help kids cope with the loss of a parent or grandparent. With the passing of Grandpa earlier this year, it’s a chance for the kids to learn that grief is a shared experience, and that it’s okay to still be sad. At the same time, as evidenced by the photo above, it’s a chance to a have a good time with one another.

As if the big photo of my brother Jim and my cousin Jesse on the front of the local section wasn’t enough, my little sister was interviewed:

“The campers brought mementos of their relatives to the park Tuesday.

Theresa Kavanagh, 11, of Wilmington chose a ping-pong ball and paddle that remind her of her late grandfather, Hugo Luti.

‘He hit it so hard it got three big dents in it,’ she said, showing off the ball’s indentations.”
