Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Birthday Brian!

FC Thun 0 - 1 Arsenal

Thanks to Robert Pires’ 88th minute penalty conversion, Arsenal clinched top spot in their group of the European Champions League with a 1-0 victory over FC Thun in Switzerland this afternoon.

Giants 27 - 17 Eagles

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Giants did just enough today to beat the Eagles 27-17, their first win over Philadlephia since 2002.

Eli Manning is still having too many passes tipped for my taste, but to his credit, he threw no interceptions today, a big improvement over the four thrown last week against the Vikings. In addition, Manning threw for three touchdowns, including a 61 yard pass to Plaxico Burress late in the fourth quarter, which sealed the win for the Giants.

I watched the game with Steve “Big Red” McD, and he was extremely pleased with the performance of Eagles backup QB Mike McMahon. McMahon came in for the injured Donovan McNabb, and threw for nearly 300 yards, 2oo+ of which came in the second half.

Next up for the Giants is a very tricky trip to Seattle. Seattle are playing extremely well this season, and as odd as it is to type for me, we could be seeing a playoff preview. Kickoff is @ 4:15 on Sunday, and the game is being shown nationally on FOX, except in those markets where the home team is playing at that time as well.

My hard drive is dead, long live my hard drive

As some of you may know, my Dell Inspiron 5150 began having problems about 6 weeks ago after a massive file transfer from Wooly’s external hard drive. At the time, it seemed that it was strictly an OS issue, and a PC restore, while a pain in the ass, was effective in restoring full functionality.

Well, about two weeks ago, the blue screen of death began re-appearing, and with it a strange grinding noise that I could only surmise to be the hard drive. I was however, able to get the laptop to work again, and did not hear the grind for some time. Then, on Friday, the candle ran out. The machine will not boot to Windows at all.

I ran the pre-boot diagnostic, and sure enough, it failed the DST Short Status Test. Error code: 1000-0142, Unit 4: Drive Self Test Failed. Status byte = 49.

I called Dell, and they confirmed that my warranty expired on August 24. It looks now like I’m in the market for a new 60GB (or larger) hard drive. Any suggestions?

Wigan 2 - 3 Arsenal

Thierry Henry’s pinpoint free kick proves the deciding goal as Arsenal earn their first road victory of the season with a 3-2 win over Wigan.

Wigan are the suprise of the season so far, a newly promoted side now sitting second in the table. They put up a hell of a fight, but in the end, the Gunners were able to stay the course to collect all three points. This moves them back up to third on 23 points with a game in hand.

Next up is a trip to Switzerland to take on FC Thun on Tuesday. As Arsenal have already qualified for the next round of the Champions League, we should see a fairly young Arsenal side taking the pitch. Kickoff is @ 2:45 PM ET.
