Liverpool 3 - 6 Arsenal

The Beast went absolutely crazy, scoring four goals as Arsenal win a wild League Cup Quarterfinal, beating Liverpool 6-3 at Anfield this afternoon.

Jeremie Aliadiere opened the scoring 27 minutes into the match, but his goal was quickly canceled out by a 33rd minute Robbie Fowler strike.

It seemed that the sides would be going in level at the half, but in the last five minutes to go before the break, the Gunners exploded for 3 more goals, Alex Song bagging a goal in the 40th minute, and Julio Baptista scoring a brace before the whistle.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Baptista had his hat-trick, making it 5-1 to the Arsenal. However, Gerrard and Hyppia each scored to make things interesting at 5-3 and ten minutes left to play.

The Beast was on a rampage, and got his fourth of the night in the 84th minute, taking the wind out of the Liverpool sails, and sending the Gunners on to a grudge two-legged semi-final with Spuds.

FA Cup Fourth Round Draw

In the draw held today in London, Arsenal were drawn at home against yet another Premiership side, Bolton, for the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The tie will be played on either the 26th, 27th or 28th of January.

Eagles 23 - 20 Giants

The Giants played some of their best football in weeks, but in the end could do nothing but watch as David Akers’ 38-yard field goal as time expired sent the Eagles on to the next round of the NFC playoffs, and sent the Giants packing.

Liverpool 1 - 3 Arsenal

Tomas Rosicky’s two first half strikes pace the Gunners to a huge away victory over Liverpool in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Busy Day In The Bronx

Brian Cashman was definitely earning his paycheck today. First, the Yankees signed 1B Doug Mientkiewicz to a one-year deal. I wonder if he’ll be the starting first baseman, and Jason Giambi will be the all-time DH. If so, that probably means the end of Bernie Williams’ career as a Yankee.

Secondly, the Yanks and Diamondbacks agreed to a deal which sends Johnson back to Arizona, something the 43-year old left hander requested so that he might be closer to his ailing mother.

From Yankees.com:

Multiple reports identified a package of four Diamondbacks players who would be sent to the Yankees in exchange for the 43-year-old Johnson, who won 34 games over the past two seasons with New York. Johnson, coming off back surgery performed in October, is owed $16 million for the 2007 season.

Headed to the Yankees — contingent upon Johnson waiving a no-trade clause in exchange for a 2008 contract extension — would be reliever Luis Vizcaino, Minor League pitchers Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, plus Minor League shortstop Alberto Gonzalez.

Despite what could be considered a disappointing stint in the Bronx, there really can’t be any hard feelings here. Good luck Randy.
