Rangers 2 - 1 Sabres

Michal Rozsival’s goal late in the second overtime gave the Rangers a 2-1 win over Buffalo in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals this afternoon.

(more in the morning)

Arsenal 3 - 1 Fulham

True to form Arsenal made it much harder on themselves than was necessary, and when Fulham pulled level with twelve minutes to go, one could hear every Arsenal supporter in the world sighing, “Here we go again.”

However, after a torrid six minutes of Fulham attacks, Cesc Fabregas again made his case for Player of the Year. In a classic example of counter-attack, Cesc’s cutting through ball found an on-rushing Emmanuel Adebayor, whose brilliantly placed curled shot beat a diving Niemi to restore the Arsenal lead.

A few minutes later, Alex Hleb drew a careless foul from former Gunner Moritz Volz to earn a penalty, which acting-captain “Gilbo” Gilberto converted with aplomb.

It was by no means an easy game to watch, but then, those have been few and far between this season. Next up are Chelski, who visit the Grove desperate for points to stay within reach of ManUre in the race for the Premiership title. It should be a “cracker”.

Kickoff is 11AM ET next Sunday, the 6th, and Fox Soccer Channel will provide live coverage here in the US.

Sabres 3 - 2 Rangers

Despite outplaying the Sabres in nearly every aspect of the game, the Rangers still ended up the losing side in a frustrating game two of the Eastern Conference semis.

The Rangers were MUCH better than in game one, and actually led 2-1 after two periods. The difference in the game was Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller, who made spectacular save after spectacular save - 31 in all.

The scene now shifts to Madison Square Garden. Perhaps the home ice advantage will help swing the pendulum in the Rangers favor. I liked what I saw last night from the Rangers. Unlike game one, game two was their to be won by the Blueshirts. Hopefully they can build on the positives and the fact that they’ll be skating in front of their home fans to pull level in the series.

Game 3 will be broadcast throughout much of the country in HD on NBC at 2PM ET on Sunday.

Mad Jens to stay at Arsenal

Jens Lehmann has announced today that he has signed a one year extension with Arsenal, and will therefore retain his title of “Mad Jens Of North London” for at least another 12 months. There had been speculation that Lehmann would move back to Das Bundesliga, but, the German was quoted as saying, “I’m going to stay an extra year, Arsenal’s a great club with a good outlook. I want to play in the Champions League next season.”

Despite the signing, reports abound regarding Arsenal’s rumored interest in Scotland #1, Craig Gordon, who currently plies his trade with Hearts in the SPL. I’m half inclined to think these are just re-hashed stories from the last transfer window back in January, but everything I’ve read on Gordon makes the stories at least somewhat plausible.

Sabres 5 - 2 Rangers

This was a tough one to watch. If the Rangers keep playing like they did last night, this playoff beard I’ve got going will be gone by this time next week.

The Rangers came out strong early, but the Sabres withstood the early onslaught while the Rangers came away with nothing after the first period of play.

Then, in the second, the Sabres took it to a new level. They were just that much faster to the loose pucks, and were rewarded for the efforts with three goals in just a matter of a few minutes.

The Rangers got both of their goals in a third period during which there was never a doubt that the Sabres had the game won.

Tom Renney will need to re-think his game plan and hope for a little luck if the Rangers are going to have any chance of advancing past these very, very good Sabres.

Don McCloskey @ Johnny Brenda’s

Been waiting for this video to surface. The show back on Friday the 13th, a release party for Big D’s new album “Northern Liberties” kicked major ass. The new tunes are great, and the video above just really captures how much fun the night was. The only bummer of the night was that the show was sold out hours beforehand, and so Mitchell was shut out.
