After going down 1-0 to the scum at White Hart Lane, Arsenal DOMINATED the second half, scoring twice to seemingly wrap up the three points. Then, horror of horrors, Jermaine Jenas scored thirty seconds after the four minutes of extra time had expired to earn the scum a draw.
Arsenal had TONS of chances to put the game away, but as is usual for this season, none were taken. The goals that they did score came from Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, the latter of whom had multiple chances clang off the bar.
So, depending on how you look at it, it’s either a point earned or two points dropped. There is a silver lining, though, as it’s now mathematically impossible for the scum to finish higher in the table, so let me be among the first to wish you all a happy St. Totteringham’s Day.
While the pitching staff has been decimated by injuries, Alex Rodriguez is the sole reason the Yankees have a winning record after fourteen games. After all that’s been said about the guy, it seems that just maybe he’s finally settling in as a Yankee. A walk-off grand slam during the first week of the season seems to have been just the tip of the iceberg, as A-Rod now leads the majors in home-runs (10) and RBI (26).
Oh, and the end of yesterday’s game at The Stadium against the Indians is the stuff of legends. Allow me to set the scene:
It’s the bottom of the ninth. The Indians had tacked up four runs in the seventh to take a 5-2 lead, and added one in the top of the ninth for good measure. Cleveland reliever Joe Borowski retired the first two Yankees he faced in the bottom of the ninth. So it was that with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the following took place:
It took five minutes of confirmation, but Matt Cullen’s goal late in the second period proved the game winner as the Rangers beat the Thrasher 4-2 last night to win their best of seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup four games to none.
Michal Rozsival, Brendan Shanahan and Jaromir Jagr rounded out the scoring for the Rangers, who will now wait to see who they’ll face in the Eastern Conference Semis. The most likely opponents are the Buffalo Sabres who are heavily favored to win the Cup this season and currently lead their series with the Islanders three games to one.
Been in meetings all day, and they’re not through yet, but I just heard about this huge story and had to take a quick break. Obviously there’s a lot to the story that’s yet to come out, but for the first taste, check out the official release on
My first reaction is that this is quite worrying. Dein’s always seemed to be a Gooner through and through, and it would have taken a lot for him to walk away from the club he loves.
The whole Rangers organization was excited to be up two games to none and playing at home in their Stanley Cup Quarter-Final matchup with the Atlanta Thrashers, and the players sure didn’t waste any time showing it.
Michael Nylander opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the first period, and the Blueshirts were on their way. Nylander added two more to complete a hattrick, rookie Ryan Callahan scored twice, and Marek Malik and Brendan Shanahan chipped in a goal each.
Henrik Ludnqvist stopped 21 shots to complete the rout.
Game 4 is tonight at Madison Square Garden, and the Rangers will be looking to complete the sweep. The puck drops at 7 PM ET, but again, there’s no national TV broadcast, so I’ll be listening online.
Tomas Rosicky and Cesc Fabregas each scored for the second match in a row, and Julio Baptista sealed the points late as Arsenal beat Manchester City 3-1 at the Grove earlier tonight.
Rosicky opened the scoring with a goal not too dissimilar to the goal he scored against Bolton on Saturday. He out-hustled the defender to latch on to Emmanuel Eboue’s cross, controlled brilliantly, and finished with a low strike past the diving Citeh keeper.
As has been the case of late, Arsenal controlled the game for long stretches. In fact, City’s equalizer came against the run of play, and only came about as the result of a poor clearance by Jens Lehmann.
The Arsenal keeper seemed out of sorts all night, as several routine saves were much more of an adventure than they needed to be. City had their tails up after the equalizer, and it wasn’t until Cesc’s fantastic 25-yard strike in the 71st minute that the visitors seemed resigned to their fate.
The remaining 19 minutes or so were fairly easy for the Gunners, made all the more so by Julio Baptista’s 79th minute strike, which was the equivalent of hitting a baseball off of a tee thanks to some great work by Alex Hleb to beat two defenders and literally place the ball on Baptista’s boot.
So, the second win on the trot, and, for the time being, a jump up to third in the table ahead of Liverpool by one point. Liverpool play Boro at Anfield tomorrow, so the stay in third place may be short-lived, but as Fats Waller once said, “One never knows, do one?”.
