Having to make do with no Arsenal the past several days due to the international break, I’ve taken the opportunity to do some damage on my Netflix queue.
On Friday, my roommate and I watched “Flags Of Our Fathers”, the Clint Eastwood film that relates the story of the Marines who hoisted the flag on Iwo Jima back in World War II.
Then on Sunday, we watched “Talk To Me”, starring Don Cheadle as Petey Greene, a ground-breaking DJ on a Washington D.C.-based R&B station back in the late 60s. We followed that up with, “Planet Terror”, Robert Rodriguez’s contribution to the Grindhouse double-feature.
I’d have to say that all three films were good, not great.
“Flags of Our Fathers” had a lot going for it, but there just seemed to be something missing, which I still haven’t been able to put my finger on. I hear that the companion piece, “Letters From Iwo Jima”, which tells the story of the battle from the perspective of the Japanese defending the island, is supposed to be the superior of the two. It just arrived in the mail today, so I look forward to watching it soon.
“Talk To Me” was good, if formulaic. Don Cheadle was excellent as usual.
“Planet Terror” was goofy, if graphic, fun. Basically yet another zombie flick, there was a major sense of humor running through the whole thing, which made it an enjoyable ride.
Shia LaBeouf appeared on the MTV Music Awards last night and announced the full title of the long-awaited fourth Indiana Jones film; “Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull.” It seems like a bit of a mouthful, but after you say it a few times, you get used to it. Or at least Joel and I have.

So, I finally got around to catching the third film in the excellent Bourne series. Damn does it kick some major ass. There were moments when I thought that it could very well have been the best action movie I’ve ever seen. The ending was a bit of a let down after all of the action leading up to it, but that was inevitable. Jason Bourne has become the defining role of Matt Damon’s career. It’ll be interesting to see what he does next.

A very cool bit of news surfaced last week and it totally escaped my radar until today. It turns out that Karen Allen will be reprising her role as Marion Ravenwood in next summer’s Indiana Jones IV.

This confirms one of the plot details I saw online which I won’t share here, but it’s probably not hard to figure out by looking at the photo above.
The official release date is May 22, 2008. I can’t wait.

This film kicks ass. I just saw it in White Marsh with Doris and Amar. To quote Amar (who’s never read nor seen anything Harry Potter before), “That was awesome!”

There’s obviously a lot going on in my life right now, but nothing that’s so important that I can’t comment on the first image of the return of my favorite fictional character. I obviously have a bias, but I think Harrison Ford looks pretty bad ass there considering he’s eligible for AARP.
